Caste News:‘5,000 fake caste certificates issued’

State SC/ST Congress Cell president Manjunath flays BJP Government
Slamming the State Government for failing to consider the woes of Scheduled Castes, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee SC/ ST Department President and former MLC N Manjunath alleged that 5,000 fake caste certificates had been issued by the BJP led government.
He was addressing mediapersons ahead of a meeting of District Executive Committee members and Block Presidents of Mysore District Rural Congress Committee, here on Sunday.

Continuing his tirade, Manjunath said that the State Government had failed to convene the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Committee, which had to meet every six months. He said that it has already been eight months since a meeting had been convened. This shows the apathy of the government, he added.

Pointing out that mid-term elections were inevitable in the State, Manjunath said that the government led by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had no respect for either the MLAs or Constitution or courts. He warned that the BJP will take the route of the DMK if the mid-term elections are held.

Mentioning that 18 per cent of funds reserved for SCs was being misused, he said that the State Government had failed completely.

Caste News:Boy killed for having affair with upper caste girl

Lucknow, Sept 11, DHNS Falling in love with an upper caste girl proved fatal for a youth who was brutally killed and one of his eyes gouged out in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district, about 125 km from here. According to police sources, the body of the youth identified as Rehan Ahmed, a resident of Khandpipra village in the district, was recovered from near a graveyard, a few hundred metres away from the village, on Saturday. Rehan was having an affair with a girl of the same village for the past two years and the two wanted to marry but their affair was not approved by the girl’s family since he hails from a lower caste. “The lovers belonged to different castes and the family of the girl was opposed to their marriage…the boy was also warned by the girl’s family members on many occasions,” officials said. London, Nov 12 (PTI): Thousands of people of Indian origin, 71 per cent of whom were Dalits, face caste discrimination in Britain, says a new report, leading to demands in the country for making it illegal. The report, titled "Voice of the Community -- A Study into Caste and Caste Discrimination in the UK", says that the caste system is widespread and that it affects thousands of people in the workplace, the classroom and even the doctor's surgery. British law currently does not protect people who suffer caste-based discrimination.
